The Inner Jung

This "small book" was a big surprise for me. I had previously read two full-scale biographies of Carl Jung: Hayman's "A life of Jung", and what I consider Jung's definitive biography, Bair's masterpiece "Jung, a Biography". So I approached this book lightly, like if it was only going to be an appetizer. But it ended up being a much more fulfilling experience than I had expected.

This book came about as a pictorial volume of an exhibition that was held in Zurich in 1975 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Jung's birth. But it was the intention of the author to offer more than a catalogue of the exhibition. The end result gave us an intimate portrait of Jung where we have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of his inner life. This biography is not very much concerned with the main events of Jung's life, or his accomplishments. Instead it has been constructed around the development of his philosophy through the various experiences of his life. This approach allows the reader to witness the evolution of Jung's inner growth, from childhood to the end of his life.

Having served as the secretary of the C.G. Jung Institute, and afterwards as Jung's personal secretary, Aniela Jaffé had a deep understanding of his philosophy and an intimate knowledge of Jung the man. And she was the co-author of "Memories, Dreams, and Reflection", Jung's famous autobiography. We actually find many quotes from that book in "Word and Image". Many people are likely to view this book as a simple introduction to Carl Jung for interested individuals who would not already be familiar with him or his work; and this was likely the main intention behind that endeavour. But it turned out to be much more than that for me. This book allowed me to immerse myself in Jung's inner world. And that is something no other biography of Jung that I had read before have ever been able to achieve for me.

Jaffé was in close contact with Jung until he died and it is like if he was still with her when she worked on this book. What makes it so special is that Jaffé was able to convey Jung's inner atmosphere like no one else has ever done before or since. I don't know why exactly but I was deeply moved by this book. But of course I cannot guarantee that Jaffé's magic spell will work equally well on anyone who will read this book. In any event it would still make a nice coffee table book where each Word carries meaning and every Image touches the soul.

A Guided Tour to Carl Jung

This is a biography of Carl Jung (1875-1961), but so much more than that. It traces his life and professional development, drawing on letters and extensive quotes from the Collected Works. It is profusely illustrated, not only with photographs of Jung and the relevant people and places in his life, but also with his drawings. After Jung's break with Freud in the early 1910's, Jung went through a about a decade of professional isolation and rich personal growth. During that time, he kept a journal called the "Red Book", which he decorated with drawing and paintings based on his dreams and active imagination. Many striking images from the Red Book are reproduced in this volume: a drawing of Philemon, Jung's inner spiritual guide; the viscerally disquieting "Meeting with the Shadow"; and a singularly captivating image, "The Light at the Heart of Darkness". Photos of Jung in his travels and at his house in Bollingen round out this engaging visual tour of Jung's contribution. This is a wonderful introduction to Jung's life and work, especially for someone of an artistic inclination.

About the Author
On April 19, 2005, CARDINAL JOSEPH RATZINGER was elected POPE BENEDICT XVI and became the 264th successor to Peter as the "Vicar of Jesus Christ." He may well be the most accomplished theologian to be elected Pope in modern times. Beginning in 1981 he spent over 20 years as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, a role often depicted as the "defender of the faith." Cardinal Ratzinger was also President of the Pontifical Biblical Commission and of the Preparatory Commission that codified the new "Catechism of the Catholic Church," published in 1994.

Peter Hunermann, Ph.D. did his studies in philosophy and theology in Rome, Munich, and Freiburg, and then was Professor of Dogmatics in Munster and Tobingen. He is the Co-founder and former President of the European Society for Catholic Theology.

Scripture and Tradition Explained

Although this book is only 126 pages, there is quite a bit of information in it. The Pope talks about Sacred Scripture and its relationship with the Church and Sacred Tradtion. For a better understanding of how Scripture and Tradition works whithin the Church, I would recommend this book. Be prepared to take your time and digest each paragraph. Thoughtful, Deep, a bit Cumbersome

An in-depth view of the concepts and reasons of Roman Catholic doctrine. I have read several other books by Pope Benedict that were much easier to read. While well written and thoroughly researched, I found this book most probably aimed at Priests rather than a lay person. As always, you will learn from the author but you may have to keep a good dictionary handy and do some personal research to get to the heart of some issues. I have thoroughly enjoyed each book of his that I have read and this one was no exception. I will warn you that this is not casual reading but a serious look at who Catholics are and why.

The story is a little confusing at first, but once you keep reading, it get's good.

I purchased this book about a month or 2 ago, I am always open to new books, and I never judge a book by it's cover, for starters it did confuse me in the beginning, as I was wondering who is Paul? Did Lorena once fall in love with him? what history did they have before this book? I do not like when books keep me puzzled and have no answers to my questions. another thing I noticed was that the story was talking about another story of why Paul left, why Troy got married with Palith, what background they had, which lost me in the beginning of the book. Again, I do not like feeling lost, meaning confused and puzzled, wondering what the heck is going on. But, I kept reading, giving it a chance to impress me... and it did. which is why I give it a rating of four stars, it is not one of the greatest books, but it does keep you wanting to read further. I like how Paul came back for Lorena and they reunite to fight together against Primus and his victims. The book is getting really interesting, and I am still reading, anxious to know what will happened next. As every book, it has it's ups and downs, all in all this is a good book, I am not finished with it, for I am on the chapter titled History. I reccomend this book to anyone who loves vampire books with a heart warming twist to it. Regardless how lost it got me in the beginning, little by little things came together and made sense. I praise this book and definitely would give it to someone who loves vampire books.

A very awesome book cover

Troy (277, 20+, med student), Caleb, Paul are vampires.
The Orions job is to keep track of everyone.
Lorena (19, college student, biology, narrator, human) lives with her dad, mom & sister Lois Elizabeth Anderson (19, tomboy, MS Computer Technology)
Paul soon becomes Lorena’s vampire B/F. Or so it seems.

What will happen between Paul & Caleb?
What about Paul & Lorena?
He’s younger than Troy and younger than Troy. Troy was twenty six and two hundred and seventy

seven years old. (pg. 173???).

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A fairly well written vampire book. It wasn’t always very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish, but never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great vampire movie, animated cartoon, or mini TV series. It was kind of cheesy by I’m sure a YA age would like it. To be continued. I will only rate it at 3/5 stars.

This book isn't flatlined, it has a strong steady pulse!

I haven't made it to the end yet, and unless it is horrible, this will stay a 5 star rating. Here we have demons, angels, humans and vampires. We have one very scared sixteen year old girl, Lorena. She has stumbled into a world that she no concept of, and it has put her life and the lives of everyone she cares about at great risk. Paul is currently a vampire. His goal, to become human and by doing so, end all vampires. That is not a simple task, and soon Lorena is on a ride that keeps the pages turning long into the night.

I really liked this new author. I enjoyed her creative take on the existence of vampires. From reading her write-ups and this book, I like her sense of humor as well. I thoroughly enjoyed certain parts, such as this one; "Fear is faith in death. Fear is faith that God won't be there. You cannot afford to let fear rob you now."

I look forward to finishing this book, and would have done so first if I hadn't had to have my review up in time.
