Yet Evaristo is not just interested in the African-Caribbean experience; this book shows how she tries to question those basic concepts-for example "Englishness" or "patriotism"-which lie at the heart of mainstream white culture in contemporary Britain. It argues that Evaristo is interested in alternative constructions-not only of nationalism, but of other basic issues such as race, gender and class. Her books give the chance for hitherto marginalized characters - slaves, women, or victims of a patriarchal world - to tell their stories and postulate alternative views of the world they live in. Above all, this monograph shows how Evaristo refuses to be pigeon-holed; she is not simply "a black British writer," but someone who focuses on the interconnectedness of society. This book calls for readers to adopt a more enlightened approach, not only to issues of culture and identity, but to the work of Evaristo as a whole.

About the Author
Sebnem Toplu is a Full Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at Ege University, Izmir, Turkey. Her other books include Cultural Materialism: Text and Context Relation in Jane Austen's Works (2001) and Diverse Aspects of Italy and Italians in Contemporary British Literature (2001), both published by Universita degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Italy, where she lectured as Visiting Professor for three years. She has published articles on eighteenth-century British literature, contemporary British fiction, postcolonialism, autobiography, multiculturalism, transnationalism and ecocriticism. She has been the editor of the journal Interactions since 2002.

About the Author

Paul Zorn was born in India and completed his primary and secondary schooling there. He did his undergraduate work at Washington University in St. Louis and his Ph.D., in complex analysis, at the University of Washington, Seattle. Since 1981 he has been on the mathematics faculty at St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota, where he now chairs the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science.

Very basic real analysis

Pedagogically this is a fine text: the basic ideas of limits, continuity, Cauchy sequences, convergence, et cetera are explained very well. But there is little coverage of convergence tests for infinite series (e.g., even the root test is missing). And there is no coverage of power series. Two other texts that are close to this book in spirit and level of exposition are Howie's "Real Analysis" (Springer) and Dangello and Seyfried's "Introductory Real Analysis" (Houghton Mifflin). Yet both have more coverage of infinite series and both cover power series. Zorn's book might be fine for a weak class or for an "analysis for liberal arts majors" kind of course. But I doubt it will suffice as the text for a first course in analysis for prospective math majors.

About the Author

John M. Kline is a Professor of International Business Diplomacy in the Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. He is a past Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program and the Karl F. Landegger Program in International Business Diplomacy. His teaching focuses on international business-government relations, international investment strategies and negotiations, and international business ethics.

In addition to Dr. Kline's textbook, Ethics for International Business, he is the author of three other books as well as numerous scholarly articles and chapters in co-authored and edited books.

Prior to joining the Georgetown faculty, Dr. Kline was Director of International Economic Policy at the National Association of Manufacturers. He received his doctorate in political science from The George Washington University and holds a masters degree in international relations from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

Dr. Kline serves as a consultant to various international organizations and private multinational corporations. He has conducted studies for the United Nations, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the U.S. Advisory Committee on Intergovernmental Relations. His current projects include a comparative analysis for UNCTAD on foreign investment policy in electricity infrastructure reforms in Chile and New Zealand, and a faculty workshop at Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico on teaching business ethics.

A 'Must-Have' for 'Firefly' players and storytellers

If you've never played the Firefly RPG before, you need to start by picking up a copy of the rules, which are available in two different products. I'll briefly describe each of those below. After you've acquired the rules, though, the "Smuggler's Guide to the Rim" is probably the next book in the product line that you should pick up. I'll explain why below.

First, a word about the 'Firefly' rules. These are available in two different books: the game's core rulebook and the Echoes of War: Thrillin' Heroics supplement. "Echoes of War" contains most of the basic rules mechanics found in the core rulebook, plus four complete adventures in which players are assumed to play characters from the TV show or one of several "character archetypes" presented (although the adventures can be run with the players' own characters, if desired). The core rules, on the other hand, add a detailed system for character and ship creation, information on the planetary systems of the 'Firefly' setting, GM advice for running longer campaigns, and a number of additional rules that you'll want to have if you love this setting and system as much as I do.

As I mentioned earlier, once you have a copy of the rules in one of these two books, the "Smuggler's Guide to the Rim" is probably the next item you should pick up. Here's why. This supplement presents the only major rules expansion to the 'Firefly' RPG, in the form of rules for character reputation-- and these rules greatly expand upon the 'feel' of the television series which this game already captures so well. In the 'Firefly' RPG, reputation allows your character to have some standing with certain segments of 'verse society, from the criminal underworld on backwater planets to the most powerful corporations in the core, or from Browncoat veterans to senior members of the Alliance Parliament. Even better, these rules allow your character to have poor standing with many of these same groups. These reputation rules are also scaleable, so that characters can become famous (or infamous) as word of their exploits travels. Essentially, the reputation rules in this book expand the characters' roles beyond their own crew and the small list of contacts that they may have on the ground; these rules give them a defined place in the 'verse, making them a part of it.

The second section of this book-- the "Shepherd's Run"-- details a nav route favored by smugglers and criminals, including detailed settings and NPC's for eight worlds along that run. This section is incredibly useful for players and storytellers alike, giving players a place to hang their hats and storytellers a number of settings for future adventures. Since the system information in this book utilizes the new reputation rules, it's also easy for all parties to know where they might expect a warm welcome from the locals-- and where they should plan for a hasty exit, just in case.

Finally, the "Smuggler's Guide to the Rim" continues the product line's amazing run of solid published adventures. Two ready-to-run adventures complete the material that it contains.

If you are in Med-Surg and need scientific rationales for you care plan try this book. I brought about 3 other care plan books that I couldn't use because the rationales were not scientific enough..
